I’ve seen these cool knotty cushions floating around on Instagram for a while now. They had me staring in admiration. The creative in me knew that I had to have a go making my own. I checked out a few different blog posts from different people but struggled to understand how they were tying it up. I decided that to help you guys out, I would record how I made mine so you could replicate it for yourself! Here you go, your very own knotty cushion tutorial!
You will need:
- 30cm of knit fabric (stretchy cotton)
- polyester stuffing
- sewing machine
Step One:
Cut two strips measuring 15 x 90 cm.
Note: there’s a variation to this style but with two tubes instead of one. If you would like to try this style, you will need four strips measuring 10 x 90cm.
Step Two:
Sew the ends of these strips together, creating one big one.
Step Three:
Fold the strip in half, and sew a 1cm seam allowance, forming a big long tube.
Step Four:
Use a safety pin to turn the tube inside out. Fold in one the ends and hem on the sewing machine.
Step Five:
Fill with polyester stuffing. You may want to use some kind of stick to push the stuffing to the end. Squeeze and roll the tube until its nicely rounded.
Step Six:
Tie tube as shown in video. If you are using two tubes, simply place the tubes right beside each other and complete knot as if you only had one tube.
Step Seven:
Tuck the loose ends under the same loop on the knot. Secure them together by hand sewing.
I love, love, love these fun cushions. I think I’m going to have to try the double tube cushion, as well as some cushions in fun colours (like not black since its SO HARD TO photograph, lesson learnt). If you have any questions, feel free to let me know in the comments below.
