For New Years Eve this year, hubby and I decided to have a bunch of people over for a BBQ and a bonfire to bring in the new year. In typical Brittney fashion, I decided to have a DIY piñata at the last minute. It was a hit (quite literally) and provided the perfect sugar boost to keep energised till midnight. After the party I realised I didn’t take a photo of the finished piñata, but I had so much fun making it I decided to recreate some mini ones!
For this project you will need:
- card
- tape
- hot glue gun
- tissue paper
- individually packaged lollies and chocolate
First, start by cutting out star shapes, two for each piñata. Cut leftover card into strips about an inch wide. Use these strips to create sides around one star. Continue until you have taped card around all sides. Add tape to both inside and outside corners to hold the shape together.
Use hot glue to stabilise the inside edges. Roll up a strip of card and glue into the middle to make it extra stable. Fill with lollies and tape the other side of the star on.
Cut the tissue paper into strips about an inch wide. Use a rotary cutter to create fringe.
Use a gluestick to glue the strips of fringe to the star. Start at the bottom and continue upwards to the top. Once you have a whole side completed, trim around the edges so the star keeps its shape. Continue around the sides and on the back until the whole star is finished.
Ta da! Aren’t they pretty? I think I’ll just keep these on a shelf for a while rather than smashing them. Confession: I may have gone through a LOT of time and a LOT of Netflix making these. Anyway, let me know if you make some, I would love to see them!

That really sounded like a super way of hoping through to the next year! I am obsessed with your star pinata and I also love the way it’s easy to make it. I think I am goign to try it out this weekend and see what I come up with. Thanks a lot for the share and keep up the great work.
