A few weeks ago a received this gorgeous print from Wool and Willow and wanted a pretty frame to display it in. I couldn’t find what I was looking for so decided to update a frame I already had. This DIY photo frame makeover with chalk paint is super easy and can be completed in only half an hour.
For this project I used Heirloom Decorative Paint (Chalk paint) From Raewyn Stewart in Meringue and Vintage Green. I love this chalk paint, especially since it’s made from a local lady! There are so many great colours in this range so definitely check it out.
The first thing I did was take the glass and backing out. The frame had never been used so didn’t need any sanding or priming. I was after a pastel colour, so made up a mixture of Vintage Green and Meringue, creating a light mint.
I painted the frame with a thin coat, dried it with a hair dryer and repeated. This type of paint dries really fast which is great but means you can’t go back over a piece that you may have missed until the coat is completely dry. The paint has amazing coverage and can be thinned with water if it’s too thick.
Once completely dry, I sanded back the frame with 340 grit paper. I got rid of any brush marks and distressed edges.
I used teak wax to polish up the frame. I rubbed the wax thoroughly into the frame, wiping away excess with a clean cloth.
I love the way the frame turned out and am equally in love with how great the Wool and Willow print looks in it. Wool and Willow have so many great prints, candles and other home decor, perfect for a kiddies’ room or maybe even your own!
