If you have read my About Page you may have seen the picture of our house when it first arrived. The house has came along way since its arrival, but our yard and garden…not so much. With winter ending and the ground getting dry, we (mainly Aaron) have been working at getting the ground flat so we can sow the lawn. I have been working on planning how things will look and dreaming of a pergola. Today I thought I would share with you all our plans, progress and inspiration, with hopes that it will inspire me to get out there and get it finished!
This is what our front yard looked like when we shifted in. A lot of work to be done right? As you can see, we have a beautiful outlook, but a few unwanted ‘hills’ standing in the way.
Plans: We were fortunate enough to have a pretty blank canvas and a nice big area so were free to plan without many limits. I measured the house and different spaces and drew up this initial plan. I’ve been reading Yates Garden Guide which helped me to think about how to lay everything out. We showed Aaron’s parents the plan and got started. We wanted areas for entertaining (BBQs and backyard cricket), pretty flowers, a veggie garden and pet sheep!
Before Aaron got the lawn sown I wanted to make a start on the garden around the house. First I lay out a hose to play around with the lines I wanted to create.
When it was looking how I wanted, I lay bricks down and did some further adjusting.
I then dug the bricks into the ground and lay out newspaper which will stop the weeds from coming through and will decompose within 18 months. I’ll put some compost over top and my wee garden will be ready for planting!
I can’t wait to have some pretty blooms lining the edge of our house and a nice lush lawn to lounge on!
Finally, I’ll leave you with some inspiration. This pergola and outdoor space makes me go all heart eyes.
More heart eyes! This picnic table with string lights is perfect!
Thanks for letting me share my plans and progress! I look forward to sharing some updates in the near future!

I love this. Congrats to you. What a lovely place to build a life and a home with your best friend. I had to look up Ivencargill, I wondered where yo would be that was having spring as we are having fall. You are going to have to keep showing updates as I will be missing my summer blooms!! The plans are lovely. My husband built a pergola for us last year and I love it, and this year a small deck. But I think I need your picnic table, or at the very least the lights! Love it.

Hahaha I literally live ‘at the ends of the earth’. I live an hour from a supermarket and three hours from the nearest mall but I love it! And the picnic table is just inspiration. I wish I had it!!
