Today I thought I would share the story behind the name Ever So Britty. It’s fun to look back at what I’ve been up to the past few years and how my side projects have changed and adapted.
It all started in 2012 when I was at polytech studying fashion design. Once every now and again we would do little two week blocks of different electives with the design students from the other strands. For the very first elective there were a great range of options such as fabric dying (done it), life drawing (no thanks) and pop up factory (tell me more!). I went with pop up factory. The aim of pop up factory was to push each student to think up and create their own product by the end of the two weeks. Since I was a fashion student, I decided to use my sewing skills to my advantage and created pencil cases with vintage fabrics and metal zips. Whilst brainstorming names for my pencil cases I came up with Ever So Britty. I liked it, as it sounded like ever so pretty, and included my name. I hand stitched a little Ever So Britty emblem on al of the pencil cases and sold them to my sister’s friends.
Fast forward one year and I was living back in Invercargill studying teaching. I mostly enjoyed teaching but felt that I needed a creative outlet. I started up a Facebook page under the name Ever So Britty and showcased different crafts and artwork I had been doing. This was back when bunting flags were the hottest thing around. I made a TONNE of bunting flags, selling them through my Facebook page and at craft markets. Two years later I was just finishing my third year of teachers’ college. Since the beginning of that year I had decided that as soon as all my studies were completed, I was going to start my own blog. With the help of Building a Framework I was able to launch my blog in October. And you guessed it, under the same name. I figured that the name worked well since people already knew it, I had built a small following on Facebook and simply because I still loved the name.
So what are my thoughts now? Am I planning to change the name? Nope and never. ;)
